THE BEST CAR in GENEVA SHOW STARS

One other side of the sheet, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible concept was, for man, a steep to far for Land Rover, although few industry watchers would bet against it winning a favorable enough reaction to make production. And the real talking points was the styling of Bentley's EXP9F SUV concept, with few fans to be found on press day. In the meantime, here's our round-up of the most interesting cars at the show, from the mainstream to the truly outrageous.

VW Polo Blue GT
The performance of the Polo Blue GTI and economy of this car thanks to a green 1.4-litre petrol engine: VW claims a 7.9sec 0-62.8mpg

Morgan Aero Coupe
Another outing for Morgan's Aero brand, with the coupe featuring a fixed roof and power from a 390bhp BMW-sourced V8

BMW M6
BMW's quickest ever road car thanks to the M5's twin-turbo ZV8 engine, and with the price tag to match: coupe is $95K, cabrio $99K.

VW Golf GTI Cabriolet
Predictable regtop version of the Golf GTI goes on sale soon. It will be interesting to see how the Cabriolet's sometimes wobbly chassis deals with 207bhp.

Peugeot 208 GTI
Lighter and more dynamically focused than the underwhelming 206 and 207 GTI's, could this be the hot Peugeot we've spent 20 years waiting for? With 197bhp from PSA's familiar 1.6-litre turbo motor, it certainly sounds promising.

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

Next step for the road-biased Rangie? Concept is officially just to gauge reaction, but you'd be brave to bet against It

Koenigsegg Agera R
For anyone who thought the old Agera R lacked a little something, the 2013-model-year version boasts 1124bhp when running on E85 fuel and has a claimed 273mph V-max.

RS5 mechanicals crossed with a pumped-up A4 Avant bodyshell should make for a lighting-quick estate: 44bhp and top speed limited to 174mph

Lotus Exige S Roadster
Yes, this is slightly confusing. The Roadster offers the extreme performance - and V6 engine – of the new Exige S, but combines them with the Elise's removable soft-top. And an automatic gearbox.

Ferrari California
The California's case has been sharpened with an extra 30bhp (making 483bhp) and 30kg shaved from the kerb weight, dropping the 0-62mph time to 3.8sec (from 4.0), but the price has risen to $152K

Buggati Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse
Spring 2012 Open-topped Grand Sport gets the mechanical package from the Super Sport coupe; 1183bhp quad-turbo W16 maje it the fastest roadster ever.

Jaguar XF Sportbrake
Jaguar finally showed an estate versin of the XF. It goes on sale later this year, with diesel power only at first, and it's a handsome thing – if four years late

Mini Countryman JCW
Long-rumoured John Cooper Works version of the maxi-Mini, with four-wheel drive, power boosted to 215bhp, and the promise of a 7sec 0-62mph time.

Citroen DS4 Racing
officially a concept, but a production version will follow, with a 256bhp version of the PSA/ BMW 1.6 Turbo seen in the DS3 Racing and Mini JCW

RUF RGT8
 Autumn2012 latest Franken-911 from RUF gets a 542bhp 4.5-litre dry-sumped V8 – and a claimed top speed of 198mph

Pagani Huayra Carbon Edition
Pagani announced at Geneva that it has already sold 85 Huayras – and showed off this exclusive version with exposed carbonfibre bodywork
